LGBT Bar NY is committed to the advancement and development of aspiring LGBTQ legal professionals. We offer several programs, events, and networking opportunities to further the growth of LGBTQ law students. Learn more about our law student opportunities below:
Judicial Fellowship
Initiated in 1993, LGBT Bar NY's Judicial Fellowship program is unique because it provides fellows the chance to work with and rotate for the 10-week summer among several different judges from varying courts and tribunals. The fellows get a first-hand look at the work of openly LGBTQ+ judges in federal district court, state trial and appellate courts, and administrative tribunals, providing an insider’s understanding of the judicial system.

Mentoring Program
Initiated in 1993, LGBT Bar NY's Mentoring Program seeks to foster the professional development of LGBTQ+ law students and assist them in navigating the unique issues they might encounter during Law School and the beginning of their legal careers. The program also aims to reinforce a sense of community among members of the LGBTQ+ legal community. Area law students who are members of LGBT Bar NY are eligible to register as mentees.

Career Fair
LGBT Bar NY’s LGBTQ+ Career Fair was started in 2005 as a one-of-a-kind annual event targeted specifically to local LGBTQ+ law students. It provides a great opportunity to meet informally with lawyers and recruiters from many of the area’s major legal employers and learn about employment opportunities in preparation for the fall recruiting season.
Internship Program
LGBT Bar NY's Internship Program provides the opportunity to interact directly with clients through walk-in legal clinics, client phone calls, and online inquiries. As a result, interns gain exposure to a wide range of legal issues and practice areas, including housing, criminal law, discrimination, employment, family law, immigration, and estate planning.
Law Student Liaisons
LGBT Bar NY's Law Student Liaisons serve on the Boards of Directors for the Association and Foundation. Liaisons learn about the daily operation of a non-profit organization, develop professional contacts within the local LGBTQ+ legal community, and work closely with the organization's Officers, Legal Director, Executive Director, and Board on a wide range of programs and initiatives.

LSAT Scholarship
LGBT Bar NY offers an LSAT Scholarship to help defray the costs of a preparatory course and/or examination fees for the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). The program seeks to promote the expertise and advancement of LGBTQ+ legal professionals while increasing the pipeline of LGBTQ+ people entering the legal profession in New York.
